Before winter break started last month, Emporia Public Schools took the COVID-related step of restricting outside public access to its facilities. It’s now taking another step directly affecting students and their parents.
All parent-teacher conferences taking place Jan. 24-27 will be held virtually, according to the district’s Community Relations office. A statement says this action is “out of an abundance of caution” for staff and family safety.
Schools are reaching out to parents to confirm dates and times for conferences. Parents need to call their students’ schools if they have questions.
Meanwhile, limits on the use of district facilities remain in place until further notice. Teams and organizations wanting to use district buildings can do so, but they have to follow several COVID protocols:
*Coaches and players only will be allowed inside.
*USD 253 mitigation strategies need to be followed. Everybody inside must wear masks unless they are actively practicing. Social distancing must be used to the greatest extent possible.
*Cleaning protocols are followed after the team or organization is done at the facility.
*Only Kansas State High School Activities Association school-sponsored tournaments will be hosted by the district. No outside organization tournaments will be allowed
*No large gatherings of people will be allowed
Residents with questions about the policy can call the district’s Community Relations Department at 620-341-2200.
