Lyon County deputies have released the names of the person who died and the person arrested as part of a check welfare call west of Emporia on Wednesday night.
Lyon County Detective Sergeant Jacob Welsh says 33-year-old Megan Triplett of Newton died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Meanwhile, the driver, 28-year-old Mario Solis of Newton, was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession and unspecified traffic offenses.
Early Thursday, Lyon County Sergeant Doug Stump said deputies responded to US Highway 50 west of Emporia shortly after 10:30 pm as an effort to check the welfare of two adults and two small children inside. Deputies found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop between Road F and Americus Road. The driver, identified by Welsh as Solis, left the vehicle, but as he did, deputies heard a sound inside the vehicle and found a woman later identified as Triplett dead inside.
The children were unharmed and were taken into protective custody. The relationship between Solis and Triplett is currently unclear.
Welsh says deputies continue to investigate the circumstances behind Triplett’s death. Welsh also says deputies do not plan to release any other information about the case.

A check welfare call west of Emporia on Wednesday night led to the discovery of a woman dead inside a vehicle and the arrest of the driver, allegedly for issues not connected to the death.

Deputies found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop between Road F and Americus Road. The driver left the vehicle, but as that person did so, deputies heard a sound inside the vehicle and found a woman dead inside.
The woman’s identity is not being released at this time as the notification process continues. The driver was arrested on suspicion of illegal activity unrelated to the death. That person’s name is also not being released at this time. The children were unharmed and were taken into protective custody.
