The Emporia State mens basketball outscored Missouri Southern 85-72 to win their 7th consecutive game. The Hornets would outscore Southern 45-31 in the 2nd half after trailing for most of the 1st half.
Tray Buchanan had another big game scoring 38 points. He made all 15 free throw attempts to help seal the win.
Jumah’Ri Turner added 22 points and Brenden Van Dyke added 10.
The Hornets also won the rebounding battle 40-36. Coach Craig Doty said one of the big differences in the 2nd half was 3 point defense.
The Hornets with the win improve to 14-3 for the season and 9-2 in the MIAA.
Emporia State guard Tray Buchanan has been named to the 100 watch list for the Bevo Francis Award. The award goes to the top player in Division II at the end of the season.
The Emporia State women were outscored by Missouri Southern 86-63. Southern jumped out to an early lead and the Lady Hornets would never catch up.
The Lady Hornets still struggled to score shooting 29 percent from the floor. They did make 10 three-point shots. Southern outscored Emporia State 20-7 from the free-throw line.
Fredricka Sheats led Emporia State with 16 points, Tre’Zure Jobe finished with 11, and Victoria Price added 10 points.
The Lady Hornets fall to 9-7 for the season and 4-6 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State women and men are off until next Saturday when they play at Washburn.
