The Resource Center for Independent Living Inc. received a grant from the Sunderland Foundation.
The center plans on using the nearly $30,000 grant to repair sidewalks and renovate badly deteriorated asphalt parking at the main office location at 1137 Laing Street in Osage City.
RCIL opened to the community in 1984 in Carbondale and continues to grow, providing individuals with disabilities a wide array of programs and services in Osage City, Emporia, El Dorado, Iola and Topeka.
The Sunderland Foundation was established in 1945 by Lester T. Sunderland, who served as president of the Ash Grover Cement Company for 33 years. After more than seven decades the Foundations continues to be led by Sunderland’s descendants, focusing on supporting brick, mortar projects and awarding grants to nonprofits in the Kansas City surrounding areas.
