A newly-redesigned COVID-19 dashboard documented the latest major increase in Lyon County’s coronavirus traffic.
Lyon County Public Health reported 493 new cases, easily the most new cases during a reporting period since the pandemic began. Lyon County’s new overall pandemic total is 8,604.
Another death was added, moving the county’s total to 101. There are four deaths awaiting final cause information from the state.
At least for now, Public Health is not reporting active cases, which had reached 835 Monday. Public Health says the prior active caseload graph didn’t reflect data that allowed for accurate comparisons to previous numbers according to Public Health Information Officer Justin Ogleby.
Public Health will now rely on positive cases by day, with separate breakdowns for daily and moving average in one graph and last three months in another. Another graph demonstrates positive cases by week.
Meanwhile, the COVID surge is hitting other area counties. Osage County is now past 3,300 total cases, while Coffey County has moved over 2,000 total cases.
