The Emporia Friends of the Public Library is moving forward with its annual meeting as scheduled, but the same can’t be said for other local organizations.
During a recent interview on KVOE’s Morning Show, Friends President Dee Schwinn says, for now, they will not be making any changes to their planned meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Schwinn made the announcement just before Lyon County History Center Director Greg Jordan made his bi-weekly appearance on the Morning Show and stated that the Lyon County Historical Society is currently weighing its options for its annual meeting scheduled for Feb. 8. Jordan says the board will be meeting Thursday evening with a few options to consider.
This comes as the History Center has enacted its COVID-19 mitigation plan due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. The center is requiring mask use and social distancing for all visitors and are asking all residents to wash their hands frequently once inside.
The plan will remain in place until further notice.
There will also be a slight adjustment made for the Camp Alexander meeting scheduled for Thursday evening. The meeting will be moving forward, however, it will be shifting to Zoom according to a release from Board Chair Anette Legako.
In the release, Legako says “we had so hoped to hold our annual meeting in person this year,” however, the ongoing spread in cases has forced the change to a virtual format. The meeting will take place at 6 pm and will include a short presentation reviewing the past year at the camp.
