The Lyon County IT Department will begin shopping around for new computers for county departments.
Lyon County Commissioners gave IT Director Chuck Boyce pre-approval for such action during their weekly meeting Thursday morning. According to Boyce the warranty on the county’s current devices is set to end in February meaning it is time to replace the equipment.
Boyce explains that it is not a matter of outdated software but rather that once the machines’ warranty runs out the cost of any repairs would be left to the county. He says when it comes to the number of computers in use, the cost of repair and upkeep can get pricey.
The commission has budgeted $55,000 for the purchase of computers and Boyce says based on current prices the county should be able to afford 55 new devices assuming prices do not continue to rise. Boyce will begin looking for new devices with plans to replace one to two computers at a time unless they can find a bundle of devices at a discounted price.
In other business, commissioners approved Lyon County Emergency Communications Center Director Roxanne Van Gundy to attend the California NENA Training Conference Feb. 27 through Mar. 2nd. Commissioners also approved $15,900 for billing of the Priority Dispatch System for LCECC.
An advanced job estimate and prepayment for Postalocity in the amount of $13,781 presented by Lyon County Appraiser Ryan Janzen was also approved. Janzen was also approved to attend the IAAO GIS/Valuation Technologies Conference in New Orleans, LA, with the county set to cover related costs not to exceed $900.
Commissioners also received the latest update from Empower House Ministries which is set to open its doors on Feb. 1.
Commissioners will reconvene for their weekly action meeting next Thursday at 9 am.
