Light snowfall last weekend did nothing to change the US Drought Monitor map for area counties.
Abnormally dry conditions remain in place for far western Chase and Greenwood counties. The rest of the KVOE listening area is not in any drought status. Moderate to extreme drought covers most of the west half of Kansas.
Moisture has been hard to come by since October. We’ve had 0.90 inches of rainfall on Veterans Day, 0.60 inches of rain on Dec. 15, less than an inch of dry snowfall and freezing drizzle New Year’s Day and around two inches of dry snow Jan. 6. Less than an inch of snow fell Jan. 15.
