Residents in southeast Lyon County and western Coffey County will notice a lot of new signage along and near parts of Lyon County Road Z in the coming days.
The signage heralds a deck replacement project on a bridge between Roads 60 and 70 near the APAC-Shears quarry. Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods says there are other connected projects to the deck replacement.
Lyon County received almost $400,000 from the state for the work. The county needs to provide a 20 percent cash match and cover costs including preliminary engineering and design, right-of-way and utilities. Woods says this is an important project because of how it connects the area to Interstate 35.
The bridge will be closed by Feb. 4, with demolition slated for Feb. 7. Guardrails and new paint are also part of the work. This could be a 12-week project. Woods says the goal is to be done sooner, but progress will be weather-permitting.
