The Emporia High boys basketball team held on for a 47-43 win over Chanute in the Ralph Miller Classic Friday.
The Spartans led by as many as 13 in the 2nd quarter. The Spartans were able to hold off a 4th quarter rally by Chanute.
Emporia High Coach Beau Welch said the game was won with a great defensive effort.
River Peters led Emporia High with 19 points, 8 came during a 14-0 run in the 2nd quarter. Parker Leeds added 12 points and Sheldon Stewart added 9 while making 6 of 6 free throws.
For the Emporia High boys it was their 2nd win of the season. They will play Shawnee Mission South in the third-place game Saturday with tipoff set for 4 pm.
