The Friends of the Emporia Animal Shelter is accepting donations to support their operations while at the same time honoring the memory of one of the most recognized animal activists to ever live.
FEAS is participating in the #BettyWhiteChallenge which is designed to encourage monetary donations to animal shelters and zoos across the nation. The challenge was created in honor of White who passed away on New Year’s Eve just ahead of her 100th birthday.
In addition to being an award-winning actress, White’s love for animals was well documented as she was a member of several national animal rights groups including the World Wildlife Foundation and American Humane Society. Deb Ghere of FEAS says White’s efforts did a lot to help shelters and zoos across the country and will likely continue to do so for many years to come.
She says being an animal advocate was White’s “main calling” and the #BettyWhiteChallenge has already gone a long way in continuing her legacy.
The challenge has already had phenomenal success at the national level with the Los Angeles Zoo recently reporting right around $75,000 in donations alone. Local fundraising numbers have not been announced.
Ghere says there are several ways for residents to donate to FEAS. You can donate through PayPal by visiting the FEAS website Friendsofeas.com, contact FEAS directly by calling 620-342-9019 or through their Facebook page or you can mail checks directly to FEAS PO Box 1402, Emporia, KS, 66801.
All donations will go to the FEAS medical/spay and neuter fund.
