Lyon County is reporting another triple-digit increase in COVID-19 cases to begin the week, however, it is significantly lower than reports from the past several weeks.
After the past two weeks saw increases of 300 cases or more between reporting periods, Lyon County Public Health is reporting just 188 new cases Monday which is the lowest increase since 115 cases were reported on Jan. 5. This brings the county’s overall total to 9,111 which means right around 27 percent of the county’s estimated population of 33,000 has been infected since the start of the pandemic.
As was the case every reporting period last week, the county’s death toll has increased, this time by two and now stands at 104 with four cases still pending final cause information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Last week alone, Public Health reported almost 800 new cases, although that data is officially pending further review. The week of Jan. 9 had a record of almost 900 new cases.
