Burlingame and Olpe were crowned the 101st girls and boys champions of the Lyon County League Tournament Saturday night inside White Auditorium.
The Burlingame Lady Bearcats came out on top of a back and forth matchup with the Lebo Lady Wolves 49-40 to claim their first Lyon County League tournament championship in program history.
After Lebo opened the scoring with a three from the wing, Burlingame would take its first lead thanks to a 5-0 run midway through the first. Both teams would exchange leads through the second, however, Burlingame would hold out to take a 24-22 lead into the half.
In the second half, Burlingame outscored Lebo 25-18 en-route to their first tournament title. Burlingame had three players in double figures with sophomore Kaylin Noonan leading all scorers with 16. Junior Gracie Simmons finished with 12 while senior Daelyn Winters finished the night with 13.
Winters says it was a dream come true to take home the win.
Coach Jeff Slater says it was a hard fight but they were ready.
Lebo junior Brooklyn Jones led her team with 10 points.
In the boys game, Olpe would outscore Madison 49-35 to claim their first tournament title in seven years.
The contest would be tight in the opening quarter before Olpe would use an 8-0 run to build a lead they would never relinquish. The Eagles would take 28-16 lead into halftime before outscoring Madison 21-19 overall in the second half building their lead to as many as 16 at one point as they clinched their first league tournament championship since 2015.
Olpe was led in scoring by senior Damon Redeker with 20 points. He says it felt great to finally hoist the tournament trophy.
Olpe junior Truman Bailey added 17 points on the night. Head Coach Chris Schmidt says his team earned the win.
Madison was led in scoring by senior Braden Foltz with 11 points.
