Lyon County deputies have determined the cause of one of Saturday’s two small grass fires.
Lyon County Sgt. Jacob Welsh says a fire at 558 Hackberry in Americus developed after improper discard of fireplace embers.
The Americus fire happened shortly after a small fire in Emporia’s Sacred Heart Cemetery shortly after 12:30 pm Saturday. Welsh says the cause of the cemetery fire was accidental, but the official cause hasn’t been announced. That fire covered most of one plot and burned both a headstone and nearby statute.
