Washburn Rural outscored the Emporia High boys basketball team 51- 45 Saturday evening.
Emporia High Coach Beau Welch said they still took a step forward.
Emporia High was led in scoring by Parker Leeds with 18 points. River Peters added 16 points.
The Spartans will host Highland Park Tuesday night.
