Area firefighters have been dealing with several small grass fires Monday afternoon.
Emporia Fire and nearby fire departments are fighting three fires simultaneously, including two separate fires along Interstate 35 near Road R-1 just east of Emporia and a separate fire near the junction of Roads 170 and X south of Reading.
Causes have not been determined.
Lyon and surrounding counties are in a very high fire danger for the rest of the day due to warm temperatures, breezy conditions, low relative humidity levels and dry grasses.
