The Emporia High boys gave Highland Park, the number 4 ranked team in 5A, a run for their money last night. Highland Park rallied in the 4th quarter for a 55-53 win over the Spartans. Emporia High tied the game at 23 at halftime on a Jacob Ortega 3 point shot. The Spartans held a 37-35 lead going to the 4th quarter. Emporia High missed a 3 point shot with 2 seconds to play. Coach Beau Welch was proud of the effort.
Parker Leeds led Emporia High with 16 points, River Peters added 13 points and Jacob Ortega finished with 12 points.
Both the Emporia High girls and boys are scheduled to play at Topeka High Friday.
