The Hartford Girls and Chase County Boys both improved their overall records in area high school basketball action Friday night.
In the girl’s game, Hartford would hold off a third-quarter flurry by Chase County to down the Lady Bulldogs 40-26.
Hartford set the tone offensively in the first half outscoring Chase County 22-9 overall heading into the locker room. In the second half, Chase County would rebound outscoring the lady Jaguars 11-8 in the third but would only come as close as seven to tying the game at one time as Hartford would hold Hartford to just six in the fourth to close out the win.
The lady Jaguars had two players in double figures. Senior Kiernan Breshears led all scorers with 16 and fellow senior Reagan Darbyshire added 10.
Head coach Ryan Thomas says it wasn’t pretty but they got the job done.
Chase County was led in scoring by senior Abby Tubach with 11 points.
With the win Hartford improves to 8-7 on the season as Chase County falls to 6-9.
In the boys game, Chase County got off to a hot start and never trailed en route to a 51-32 victory over Hartford.
Chase County would build a first-half double-digit lead thanks to a first-quarter 11-0 run followed by an early 8-0 run in the second to lead 29-15 at the half. Hartford would make a run in the second half outscoring Chase County 13-10 in the third but they could not maintain the momentum as Chase County outpaced the Jaguars 12-4 in the fourth to seal the win.
Chase County was led in scoring by sophomore Colin Monihen with 13 points. Sophomore Tag Groh added 12.
Chase County Head Coach Cade Witte says his players set the tone quickly.
Hartford was led in scoring by senior Shayden Sull with 12 points. With the win Chase County improves to 7-8 on the season as Hartford falls to 3-12.
