The Kansas Department of Transportation has approved contracts for seven electronic charging stations across the state, including one affecting part of the KVOE listening area.
On Friday, KDOT announced Francis Energy, LLC, had secured a contract for a new charging station at the Kansas Turnpike’s Matfield Green service exit 30 miles southwest of Emporia. The state award is over $335,000 with Francis Energy needing to provide 20 percent of the total project cost.
KDOT says it fielded over 30 project proposals to install so-called Direct Current Fast Charging stations, which can charge vehicles in about 30 minutes under normal circumstances. Staff from KDOT, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and a team of consultants then evaluated each potential project against the standards outlined in the state’s Request for Proposals as announced last fall.
The immediate Emporia area is one of five locations KDOT has singled out for EV charging stations but have not had contracts awarded at this time.
