An Emporia man was taken to a Wichita hospital after a crash on the Kansas Turnpike on Friday afternoon.
The Highway Patrol says 57-year-old Martin Ringgold was driving a straight truck northbound when the crash happened about five miles southwest of the Cassoday exit and 40 miles southwest of Emporia shortly before 3 pm. Ringgold told troopers he was drinking water, started choking on the drink and blacked out. Ringgold’s truck went off the highway into a ditch before coming back onto the highway, hitting the center barrier wall and rolling onto one side.
Ringgold had suspected minor injuries but was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
