A 3 point basket with 3.5 seconds to play in overtime lifted Rogers State to an 82-81 win over the Emporia State men Saturday. The game featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties. Emporia State trailed at halftime 35-34 and by 8 points with 5 minutes to play. The Hornets went on an 11- 2 run to take a 70-69 lead. Rogers State made 1 of 2 free throws to send the game to overtime. Emporia State led by 5 with just over a minute to play. Devin Pullum hit a 3 point shot to make it a 2 point game and the game-winner. Tray Buchanan missed a 3 point shot attempt as time expired. Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said Rogers State made 1 more play.
Tray Buchanan and Jumah’Ri Turner both scored 32 points to lead Emporia State. They also combined to make 27 of 32 free throw attempts.
With the loss, The Hornets fall to 16-6 for the season and 11-5 in the MIAA.
Rogers State won the womens game 77-59. The Lady Hornets led 21-14 after the first quarter. The game was tied at 36 at halftime. Rogers State would outscore Emporia State 41-23 in the second half. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said they were outplayed by Rogers State.
Emporia State had 2 players score in double figures led by Tre’Zure Jobe who finished with 12 points, all scored in the first half. Emily Weathers added 11 points.
The Lady Hornets fall to 11-10 for the season and 6-9 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State women and men host Northwest Missouri State Tuesday night.
