A Rossville man was taken to Newman Regional Health following a single-vehicle accident north of Emporia Sunday afternoon.
Emporia/Lyon County EMS, Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire District Two were called to the 3100 block of Kansas Highway 99, roughly 17 miles north of Emporia, just before 2 pm. According to Deputy Fernando Zuniga, a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by 45-year-old Brandon Mildren, was traveling southbound in the area when Mildren lost control for unknown reasons.
The pickup then left the highway and entered the west ditch and struck a barbed wire fence and culvert before coming to a stop. Mildren was taken by ambulance to Newman with what are being called non-life-threatening injuries.
Mildren was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The crash is under investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews were called to the 3100 block of North Kansas Highway 99 shortly before 2 pm Saturday for a reported injury crash. Details on the accident, including the number of vehicles involved and potential injuries are pending.
The call came down shortly before Emporia Police were toned out to the intersection of Ninth Ave. and Walnut in Emporia for a second reported injury accident. According to Emporia Police at the scene, the accident occurred after an eastbound pickup truck stopped in the roadway for a passing dog.
The driver of an eastbound passenger car failed to see the pickup stop and rear-ended the truck. The passenger car suffered severe front end damage and had to be towed from the scene but neither the driver of the car or the pickup sustained any serious injuries and neither required medical transport.
