If you haven’t wished Jim Wayman well as he enters retirement, you have a chance to do so Wednesday.
ESB Financial has a special celebration from 2-4 pm at 801 Merchant to celebrate Wayman’s retirement and to welcome Michael Black as the bank’s incoming president and chief executive officer. On KVOE’s Managing Your Money segment recently, Wayman recounted his family’s lengthy history in banking, both with his great-grandfather, Will Wayman, and also with his mother’s family.
Originally a rancher in Lyon County, Will Wayman founded a bank in Admire in 1887 at the urging of friends and nearby landowners, following that with a bank in Allen in 1892 and the founding of Emporia State Bank in 1901.
Jim Wayman started his banking career at ESB as a teenager, and he says he never seriously considered another career.
Wayman and his sister, Karen Sommers, will both serve on the ESB Financial Board of Directors, with Wayman continuing as chair. Wayman says ESB Financial will remain family-owned, and the Wayman family will still be active participants in the bank and across the area.
