New boundaries are coming to Kansas’ Congressional map.
The Kansas House on Tuesday voted to override Governor Laura Kelly’s veto of proposed changes by an 85-37 vote with three representatives voting absent. All three representatives for Lyon County — 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber of Emporia, 51st District Representative Ron Highland of Wamego and 76th District Representative Eric Smith of Burlington — voted in favor of the override.
The House vote followed Tuesday’s 27-11 vote by the Kansas Senate to restart the override process after the Senate initially didn’t get enough votes to overturn the veto Monday.
The so-called Ad Astra 2 map moves Lyon, Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties from the First District to the Second, joining Coffey and Osage counties. The map also splits parts of Wyandotte and Douglas counties, moving them from the Third District to the Second.
