COVID-19 numbers remain elevated, but they are sharply lower than where they were a month ago. And nobody’s more pleased than local health officials like Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern.
So far this week, Public Health has noted over 150 cases total in its reports Monday and Wednesday, well below the 896 new cases noted the week of Jan. 9.
While enjoying the decline in new cases, Millbern says new cases still need to come down significantly — and other stats are also higher than desired.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday, Millbern said the test positivity stat indicates there is still a lot of COVID infection across the county. She also says caseload data for omicron’s peak in mid-January may not have been accurate.
Testing availability has improved but is still limited and the number of residents wanting tests has also waned.
