Black History Month activities continue at Emporia State University on Thursday evening.
On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Wednesday, ESU Interim Senior Director for Diversity Nyk Robertson previewed an appearance by Wichita State professor Dr. Kevin Harrison. His talk is titled, “A Name for the Pain.”
The discussion and seminar run from 7-8:30 pm at the Memorial Union Preston Family Room.
Other activities are either upcoming or ongoing. On Feb. 23, Diversity Student Programming will have “My Sista’s Keeper” at the Memorial Union Diversity Lounge. The program starts at 6 pm and features a Topeka group discussing African American women, mental health, relationships and self care.
Ongoing all month is a special exhibit in the William Allen White Library, which focuses on an influx of African Americans to Kansas in the late 1870s and early 1880s called Exodusters. A community settled in Dunlap, and the exhibit goes through personal stories and other artifacts.
