5 New members will be added to the Emporia State Athletic Hall of Honor Friday night.
Cassondra Boston – Richards – Basketball
Cassondra earned the WBCA/State Farm All-American, MVP of the MIAA, unanimous 1st team All-MIAA, and the Daktronics South Central Region Player of the year as a senior. Helped Lead the Lady Hornets to the 2010 National Championship. She was also named the 2009-10 MIAA Ken B. Jones Award winner.
Alli Brattin-Volkens – Basketball
Volkens earned 2nd-team Daktronics All-American honors as a senior in 2011 after leading the Lady Hornets to the 2010 National Championship as a junior. She was the Most Outstanding Player at the 2010 Elite Eight averaging 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game during the three games in St. Joseph, Mo. She would average 18.3 points and 12.6 rebounds per game as a senior. She set an MIAA tournament record with 47 rebounds and her 73 points ranked third at the time as she led ESU to the MIAA Championship game for the second time in three years. She finished her career ranked 14th in career scoring at ESU with 1,360 points, fourth with 894 career rebounds, and second with 216 blocked shots.
Brittney Miller – Pitts – Basketball and Volleyball
Miller earned first-team AVCA All-American honors and was the MIAA Player of the Year in volleyball as a senior in the fall of 2010 after earning All-Tournament honors at the women’s basketball Elite 8 in the spring of 2010. She ranks fourth on the ESU volleyball career list in kills with 1,357 and hitting percentage at .326 while ranking fifth in career kills per game. She was the third-leading scorer at 8.4 points and second-leading rebounder at 5.9 boards per game in basketball during the 2009-10 season. She advanced to the NCAA Tournament on every team she played for at ESU including the 2010 women’s basketball national championship and 2008 volleyball regional finalist team.
Alan Johnson – Track and Field
Alan set several track records in the 60-meter dash, 100-meter dash, and 200-meter dash. He was also part of the Great Plains Conference championship mile relay team in 1974. He also set the Emporia State indoor record at 6.2 in the 60-yard dash.
Greg Rahe
The Radio Voice of the Hornets since 1988, Rahe has been on the call for over 1,500 Emporia State radio broadcasts including national championship games for football in 1989, softball in 2006, baseball in 2009, and women’s basketball in 1998 and 2010. He is a nine-time KAB Award winner and earned the 2018 Hod Humiston Award for Sports Broadcasting given annually to a Kansas broadcaster who has made significant contributions to the field of sports broadcasting as well as work in the community.
The induction ceremony will be held tonight at the Emporia Country Club.
They will also be recognized at Saturday’s Emporia State basketball games against Lincoln.
