Just over two years after local voters approved a $78 million bond improvement project for USD 253 Emporia Public Schools, work continues to progress at an impressive pace according to administrators at the helm of the project.
Senior Project Manager for McCownGordon Construction, the firm heading up the project, Eric Woltje recently joined KVOE’s Morning Show to update progress on the Building for the Future Bond renovation project. Back in November, work began on the fourth of nine buildings Logan Ave. Elementary School.
Woltje says for the most part the overall project is trending in the right direction, however, they have run into some challenges over the past few years.
That being said, Woltje tells KVOE News they are nearing the finish line on several projects including the new Jones Early Childhood Center. Woltje says they are in the process of adding some “final touches” before the center will officially be open.
Work at Walnut Elementary is nearly completed, with work also into the later stages on the new addition to Emporia High School. As of Wednesday, construction documents are now out to bid for work on Village Elementary School and Woltje says documents for Emporia Middle School should be in hand by the end of the month with the project set to go to bid shortly after.
Work on Village could begin this summer while work at EMS will be highly dependant on material procurement.
