The recent winter weather and ongoing push through COVID-19 have kept the Salvation Army of Emporia busy.
Lt. Mylie Hadden says there has been an increased demand on the food pantry this winter, in part because of increased food prices at local stores.
Hadden says some shelves are bare at this time, with pasta sauce and noodles needed as well as jellies, canned fruit, cereals, crackers and rice.
Demand for rent or utility assistance remains “consistent” as winter progresses.
The Salvation Army is now offering a Pathway to Hope case management process for residents needing long-term assistance, and Hadden says life skills classes through this new venture will be held the first and third Thursdays in March.
