Resolution of a Lyon County bench trial involving an appeal of a child misconduct conviction won’t happen until at least next month.
The bench trial in the case of Joe Louis Stewart versus Kansas had two days of testimony last week before pausing. Stewart was convicted of indecent liberties against a child in 2016 and was subsequently sentenced to 25 years in prison with no chance of parole. He has been appealing since 2018, but appeals to the Kansas Court of Appeals and Kansas Supreme Court have been unsuccessful to date.
The current schedule has trial resuming at 3 pm March 10.
