The Emporia State Union Activities Council is hosting a presentation by best-selling author, filmmaker, and suicide prevention and mental health advocate Kevin Hines.
At age 19, Hines was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Two years after his diagnosis, he attempted to take his own life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Less than 1 percent have survived the fall and up to 19 percent of people diagnosed with bipolar disorder turn to suicide. Hines is looking to change that statistic.
Blythe Eddy, director of student activities and community service in ESU’s Center for Student Involvement, speaks more on how important it is to share stories like Hines.
Co-sponsors include The ESU Counseling Services Suicide Prevention Education Program.
Hines will be telling his story Wednesday at the Albert Taylor Hall in Plumb Hall at 7 pm. This presentation is free of charge.
