Moderate snowfall is now a distinct possibility for the KVOE listening area with a winter storm moving towards the area.
The current projections from the National Weather Service involve 3-6 inches of snow along with a thin glaze of ice from a wintry mix early Thursday. Besides the standard snow forecast range, the Weather Service is now using percentages of certain areas receiving a said amount of snow. Emporia is now at a nearly 90 percent chance of receiving two inches and a nearly 50 percent chance of receiving at least six inches of snow.
The peak impact time from the storm is currently setting up for Wednesday night and Thursday morning with snow and northerly wind gusts possibly as high as 40 mph. Blowing snow, meaning poor to zero visibility, and drifting snow are both likely regardless of how much snow we receive.
