The Madison Lady Bulldogs and Lyndon Tigers both picked up victories on the Area Game of the Week regular-season finale Friday night.
After falling behind early, the Madison Lady Bulldogs rallied midway through the first half to defeat Lyndon 57-41.
Lyndon would take a 13-12 lead into the second quarter before Madison would outscore the Lady Tigers 17-9 to build a lead they would never relinquish heading into halftime. In the second half, Lyndon came as close as 5 to retake the lead but could never overcome the deficit.
Madison had three players end the night in double figures led by Freshman Jalynn Weakley with 23. Junior Yolaine Luthi added 17 points and junior Sarah Miser ended the night with 12.
Head Coach Vanessa Kresin says she was proud of how her team bounced back.
Lyndon was led in scoring by senior Addyson Easter with 14 points and sophomore Taylor Thompson with 10. With the win, Madison improves to 12-6 on the season while Lyndon falls to 4-14.
In the boys’ game, a last-second trip to the foul line saw Lyndon pull ahead of Madison to down the Bulldogs 49-47.
In a back and forth first half that saw seven lead changes and four times, Lyndon would manage to come out on top 29-25 heading into halftime. In the second half, Lyndon would build their lead to as many as 8 before Madison would tie the ball game with just over a minute to play.
A foul with 1.7 seconds remaining put Lyndon senior Toby Miller at the line and after sinking both shots the Tigers would pull ahead 49-47. A last-second half-court shot by Madison would come up short as Lyndon would hold on to clinch the win.
Head coach Michael Massey says he was happy to get the win, but he wants to see more focus out of his team through four quarters.
Madison was led in scoring by junior Bryson Turner with 15 points. Senior Drew Stutseman added 13.
With the win Lyndon improves to 17-2 on the season while Madison falls to 14-4.
