As was the case when snowfall covered the KVOE listening area two weeks ago, the moderate to heavy snow from Thursday fell too late to have any impact on the US Drought Monitor.
Abnormally dry conditions have affected much of the area all month, specifically areas south and west of a line from Council Grove to Reading to Lebo. There was virtually no movement from last week’s map when the new data was released Thursday.
Data collection for the weekly map ends late Tuesday. There was anywhere from 1-9 inches of snowfall areawide Thursday, with the heaviest snow reported in places like Emporia, Hartford, Olpe, Lyndon and Melvern.
No precipitation is in the current forecast until Thursday.
