Traffic isn’t to full speed yet, but it’s close on Emporia’s most heavily-traveled streets as well as Lyon County roads and highways.
Lyon County Sgt. Jacob Welsh tells KVOE News there are still some hazardous locations Saturday morning.
With that in mind, he’s still urging caution on the road — even if you drive a 4-wheel vehicle.
In Emporia, arterials like US Highway 50 and Industrial Road are largely clear. Downtown still has some notable snow and ice, as do a lot of residential collectors and side streets. Highway travel is listed as seasonal, meaning isolated snow and ice pack, for the Kansas Turnpike up and down the highway, Interstate 35 east of the Hartford-Neosho Rapids exit and US Highway 75 south of BETO Junction.
After anywhere from 3-9 inches of snowfall in Lyon County, including 5-9 in and near Emporia on Thursday, travel conditions should take another step forward Saturday with sunshine and highs in the mid-30s. There should be no issues with travel by Sunday afternoon with sunshine and highs in the mid-50s. Another winter storm could bring us light snowfall Wednesday night into Thursday, based on the current forecast.
