Sometimes phone scams are relatively subtle. Others aren’t, including one announced by Burlington Police on Monday.
An employee of the Burlington Subway reported fielding a call from somebody posing as a US Marshal. The caller told the employee to take $150 in cash from the restaurant and purchase a “money pack” from Dollar General. The worker started to follow those directions, but halted after being told US Marshals were coming to the restaurant to serve a warrant.
Burlington Police says no law enforcement agency will tell you to pay them for the express purpose of avoiding a warrant. If you get a similar call, let your local law enforcement agency know.
