Village Elementary physical education teacher Andy Battenfield is a Kansas Master Teacher as announced by Emporia State University.
Battenfield was one of seven teachers announced for the honor Tuesday. He has been teaching at Village for 19 years and is an Emporia State graduate.
Emporia State established the program in 1954 to honor teachers who “demonstrate the attributes of exemplary professional educators.”
Because of COVID-19, all teachers were recognized last year. The 2020 and 2022 classes will be honored on Emporia State’s Master Teacher Day on April 6, with activities including a seminar at Visser Hall, social hour at the Memorial Union and the official awards ceremony at Webb Hall.
More information about the award and the selection process is online at www.emporia.edu/masterteacher.
