With severe weather season approaching, the National Weather Service Topeka office is planning a blend of in-person and online storm spotter training classes, while the Wichita office is setting up a traditional in-person schedule.
Several online classes have been announced through the Topeka office, including March 1, March 16 and March 29. All the programs will go from 7-8:30 pm. Each has a separate log-in link available by going to www.weather.gov/top and clicking the “Severe Storm Safety and Information Show Schedule” link near the top of the page. At this time, the only in-person event on the schedule is at 6:30 pm March 30 at the Melvern Community Center Annex.
For the Wichita coverage area, the Eureka High School Auditorium will be the host site for the Greenwood County spotter session at 6:30 pm Monday. The Cottonwood Falls Community Building will host Chase County’s training event at 6:30 pm March 7. Click here for the full schedule.
As usual, programs will include information about different storm types, storm features, severe weather safety and proper reporting techniques.
Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 7-11 in Kansas. National Weather Service meteorologists Chad Omitt and Chance Hayes will be on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia at 11:06 am March 4.
