Landowners planning controlled burns this season and wanting more information about the Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan are encouraged to take part in one of two webinars coming next week.
The Smoke Tools workshops are coming Tuesday and Wednesday via Zoom. Hours will be 8 am to 3 pm.
The webinars will be led by Trent Wickman, an air resource specialist for the USDA Forest Service’s eastern regional office covering Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The workshops are described as active participation, “hands-on” training sessions working through exercises involving online smoke tools.
The workshops are free but capacity is limited. To register, email mcgowan-stinski.1@osu.edu. A reply email will contain the Zoom link, pre-workshop resource materials and a workshop agenda.
Last year, nearly 1.9 million acres of grass were burned across the Flint Hills in Kansas and Oklahoma between late February and the end of April. For more information about the Smoke Management Plan, go online to www.ksfire.org or find the Kansas Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan on Facebook.
