Chase County firefighters were busy battling a grass fire Tuesday afternoon.
Chase County Fire Chief Steve Fillmore says the fire developed at 2147 240th Road, about five miles east of Strong City. Some twine used to wrap large hay bales was getting burned and got away.
About 150 acres of open pasture was burned. There were no injuries reported and no damage to buildings noted.
Separately, Emporia Fire put out a small grass fire that developed along Interstate 35 near the Burlingame Road exit shortly before 9 pm. The cause has not been announced.
A very high fire danger has been in place all week with a combination of above-normal temperatures, dry grasses despite recent snowfalls and low relative humidity levels. That trend continues Wednesday.
