Olpe and Burlingame will meet Saturday with a trip to the state tournament on the line after sub-state semi-final wins Thursday.
Burlingame punched their ticket to the sub-state championship game in the final second defeating Madison 41-40.
After ending the first half tied at 20, Burlingame would play much of the second half from behind being outscored by Madison 11-6 in the third. With under 30 seconds remaining, Burlingame would pull within two.
Freshman Dane Winters would then sink a three-pointer, and his first basket of the ball game, at the buzzer to send the Bearcats to the championship game.
Burlingame was led in scoring by senior Lance Noonan with 15 points. Senior Trevor Quaney added 14 points.
Head Coach Eric West says he’s proud of how his team executed late in the game.
Madison was led by senior Drew Stutseman with 15 points.
Olpe earned their place in the championship game defeating Colony Crest 76-19.
Olpe built an early double-digit lead midway through the first quarter before going on to outscore Crest 39-13 overall heading into the half. The Eagles kept the pressure on in the second half outscoring the Lancers 37-6 overall.
Olpe had three players end the night in double figures and were led by senior Derek Hoelting with 20 points. Junior Truman Bailey added 18 and senior Damon Redeker ended the night with 11.
Head Coach Chris Schmidt says he was pleased with the effort.
Olpe and Burlingame will play Saturday at 5:30 pm.
