A decision on whether Alan Alanis will be tried as an adult in the murder of Jesus Avila better than four years ago is now getting moved to at least April.
A hearing that went several days last month resumed Thursday, with defense expert testimony being presented. The hearing will now resume April 7 with prosecutors presenting their own expert testimony. A decision on Alanis’ status will follow that testimony.
Alanis and the five other defendants were all juveniles when Avila was murdered in September 2017. All other defendants in this case have been certified as adults.
Speaking of other defendants, Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde had a separate motions hearing Thursday. A count of felony theft of a firearm was added as an alternate to an existing robbery count.
Both Alanis and Cornejo-Campoverde are charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and other charges in Avila’s death.
