Next week, part of Interstate 35 east of Emporia will see a lengthy road resurfacing project. A separate but similar project is coming north of Emporia by the end of the month.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says US Highway 56 will have a mill and overlay project across Lyon County from the Morris County line to the Osage County line. Forty working days are allotted to the project, meaning work could well extend through May. Detours and delays are expected.
On the I-35 project, KDOT says the mill-and-overlay project is set to begin Monday and go through May. Nearly 12 miles of highway will be repaved from the Lyon-Coffey county line to the US 75 junction.
Separately, KDOT says Kansas Highway 177 north of the Council Grove Reservoir will have road construction starting March 28. Construction will push north to Kansas Highway 4 southwest of Alta Vista.
On top of all that, KDOT says all the signage for state highways in Lyon County will be replaced through the year.
