Emporia’s Presbyterian Church West Campus was filled with song — and a lot of people — for the 134th Saint David’s Day concert.
Sunday’s concert saw close to 100 people brave the cold and intermittent ice pellets that moved in before heavier sleet covered the area.
The concert took a year off due to COVID-19 last year, and there were some adjustments as the pandemic continues although at lower numbers than recently. Concertgoers needed to wear masks and the traditional Bara Brith and tea reception was not held as a precaution.
St. David’s Day is a big holiday for many in the area after Welsh residents emigrated to the Flint Hills throughout much of the 1800s. St. David was a warrior priest in the Sixth Century and became the patron saint of Wales.
