Last-minute checks are ongoing as the 5A state basketball tournament gets set to take place inside White Auditorium Wednesday.
Once again, the Emporia Recreation Commission will host the tournament and Rec Director Tom McEvoy, a recent guest of the Talk of Emporia, says they have a lengthy to-do list ahead of tip-off.
McEvoy says they are very excited to be hosting a tournament once again and ERC Assistant Director of Operations Amanda Gutierrez says they are very pleased to be hosting a traditional tournament after last year’s competition was altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the ERC will be emphasizing personal responsibility amongst attendees to the tournament. Capacity will not be limited and masks will not be required for fans.
The tournament will begin Wednesday at 2 pm with the opening round of the boy’s bracket with games to follow at 4, 6 and 8 pm. The girl’s bracket will follow on Thursday with the same format.
Boys and girls semi-final games will be played Friday with the third-place and championship games scheduled for Saturday afternoon and evening. For more information visit EmporiaRec.org or the official KSHSAA website.
