(ESU) Emporia State Athletic Director Kent Weiser has announced that he will be retiring effective July 1st.
Weiser has been the Athletic Director at Emporia State for the past 23 years. He took over the post in August of 1999.
Weiser said he will miss being a part of the Athletic Department but he felt it was time to pass the torch.
Emporia State Football Coach Garin Higgins, who was hired by Kent Weiser in 2007, says Kent is more than just a boss.
Emporia State men’s Basketball Coach Craig Doty says they want to build on the legacy that Kent has established.
The Hornets have won 25 MIAA regular-season team championships and 18 tournament championships under Weiser’s leadership. Every Hornet program has made an appearance in the NCAA Championships on his watch with a total of 126 national placements, 11 top-eight finishes, six top-four finishes, four championship game appearances, and the 2010 women’s basketball national championship. ESU teams have finished in the top 20 of Division II in 11 different sports under Weiser’s leadership.
