The State High School basketball tournaments begin Wednesday at 7 different locations.
The Olpe boys will begin defense of their State title at the 1A Division I State Tournament in Dodge City against Troy.
Olpe Coach Chris Schmidt says it comes down to doing the fundamentals well.
Tip-off is set for 2 pm. The game will be broadcast on Country 101.7FM.
The Waverly boys will open play in the 1A Division II State tournament against Northern Valley.
Waverly Coach Tyler Williams says they will need to be able to handle Northern Valleys’ speed.
Waverly plays in the 4 pm game at Barton Community College. The game will be broadcast on MIX 104.9.
At the 2A tournament in Manhattan. The Mission Valley girls play Sterling at 2 pm.
At the 3A tournament in Hutchinson, Osage City boys play Southeast of Saline.
The 5A State tournament, to be played at Emporia’s White Auditorium, begins with boys’ first-round games.
In the first game number 1 seed, Kapaun Mt. Carmel plays Topeka Seaman at 2 pm.
In the 4 pm game Maize, the defending 5A State Champion, plays Highland Park.
In the 6 pm game number 2 seed Topeka West plays St. James Academy.
In the 8 pm game, DeSoto plays Blue Valley Southwest.
The 4A tournament will be played in Salina and the 6A tournament will be played in Wichita.
