The benefits of Scouting were touted during the Jayhawk Council Sojadi (soh-HAH-dee) District’s Friends of Scouting breakfast at the Emporia Arts Center on Wednesday.
Kansas Lt. Governor David Toland, an Eagle Scout himself — plus the son and father of a Scout — thanked the Emporia area for “believing in Scouting.” He says Scouting provides a lot of qualities that aren’t seen enough in today’s world.
District Chair Jim Wayman says Scouting is “healthy” with over 120 children participating locally and over 3,000 community service hours logged over the past year.
The Friends of Scouting campaign officially kicked off Wednesday to help the camping program, activities and unit service ventures. A regional goal is $80,000. The local goal is $20,000, and Wednesday’s breakfast generated over $10,000. With $5,000 already in hand, the campaign is now almost at 80 percent of goal.
