Lyon County’s COVID-19 caseload numbers have been low recently, in case you haven’t noticed.
Through the first two reporting periods this week, there have been 11 cases total. Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern is pleased with the current trend.
Millbern is also pleased with the latest test positivity trends. The test positivity rate for the week of Feb. 20 was 8 percent and dipped to 4 percent the following week, well below the 30-60 percent positivity noted during the omicron wave in January.
Overall, COVID cases dropped off sharply since peaking in early to mid-January, when daily caseloads approached 200 and weekly caseloads were almost to 900.
Interest in testing has waned overall. Millbern says there has been an uptick in vaccinations recently, mainly in second doses and boosters.
Lyon County is now at 10,125 total cases and 112 deaths since the county’s first case of COVID-19 on March 21, 2020.
