Emporia Police have noted a string of auto burglaries recently.
The department has not given specifics on the number of auto burglaries or the kinds of items taken other than loose change, but it says those incidents have been reported Thursday morning into Friday morning. Police Capt. Ray Mattas says burglars target unlocked vehicles — wanting quick access without making a lot of noise — and they typically look for wallets, purses and backpacks.
Officers are investigating. The department urges residents to take personal items inside and lock their vehicles.
